Values
We all have some really important reasons for why we do what we do. The smallest of things can be significant when you understand the why bubbling beneath the surface.
When I got into this business I wanted to support young girls with STEM, particularly Technology education. However, this particular value changed the more I was in classrooms. It became less about gender balance or imbalance and more about advocating and empowering everyone to celebrate their skills. It was about showing how to celebrate achievements, listen to people when they speak, asking the right questions and creating a safe space for people to ask their peers for help. A difficult thing for 4 year olds to do!!
My core values revolve around communication, collaboration and humour. The idea behind this has always been to equip children with the skills they need for their future in a technology rich world. A tech rich world that we’re seeing change before our very eyes. The idea that I can equip children with a foundation of skills which other skills can be built upon is hugely important to me. The idea that we can also show them how to communicate and actively listen is also a hugely important skill. The world can also be a dark place especially when we look at technology and so to balance that out we need to remember how simply human we are so being silly and making children laugh and sometimes laugh at themselves is a good way to break down barriers and create and enforce learning opportunities.
What do you want for your child?
It is my purpose to support you, your child and educational professionals with the skills required for a tech rich future through screen-free activities. Remember, we don’t need tech to teach tech.
