“There is currently a shortfall of over 173,000 workers in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) sectors: an average of 10 unfilled roles per business in the UK…..This is a challenge that we have tracked for the last 15 years – longer than the time it takes for a primary aged-child to complete their education.” IET - Engineering Kids Futures
To equip our children with the skills they’ll need for their digital future, Unplugged Tots activities introduce:
Algorithms - following a set of rules
Sequencing - following the algorithm in a particular order
Logic - working out reasoning
Pattern recognition - working out any repeating patterns
Deconstruction – breaking down problems into smaller easier to manage chunks
Resilience and debugging – fostering a growth mindset when facing problems and working through to fix any errors
Maps, Navigation and Direction – using landmarks to help us get around
Inclusivity, Collaboration and Representation – Listening, championing and respecting EVERYONE no matter what
